Amada Senior Care Birmingham
Nick Petitti and Phillip Paulk, owners of Amada Senior Care Birmingham, believe that our elders deserve our respect, gratitude, and the highest level of care available. This is what they strive to provide to clients in Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia Hills, Leeds, Irondale, Center Point, Alabaster, Hoover, and surrounding communities.
To the home-care aides at Amada Birmingham, assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meal preparation and housekeeping is only a small part of our duty to the seniors we work with. We believe that to provide the quality of care our clients deserve, we must earn their trust and get to know them on a more personal level. Only after we have done this can we personalize their care and enrich their lives in the most meaningful ways.
For example, instead of simply throwing together a lunch for a client, we might take the time to make their very favorite sandwich—just the way they like it. Or we may notice that a client’s flower garden looks neglected and head outside with him or her to pull weeds and trim hedges. It’s personal touches like these that show our clients how much we value them and make their days enjoyable.
At Amada Birmingham, our services are not limited to in-home senior care. We also help families find the ideal assisted living environment for their specific needs, introduce clients to resources that may make it easier to pay for care, and help them make the best use of their long-term care insurance benefits.
We do this and more because we believe that senior care should be a family effort, and each of our clients is an important member of the Amada Birmingham family.

My mom had a long-term care insurance policy, and she was having trouble getting it turned on so she could get care. Nick and Rachel helped us activate it and they handled all the claims paperwork going forward. What I found out very quickly is that a lot of companies SAY they take or deal with long-term care insurance, but they don't have the knowledge, expertise and software to manage claims the way Amada does. Thank you guys for everything!
Senior Housing Advising
At Amada Senior Care Birmingham, the needs and interests of our clients always come first. So when a home-care aide, client, or family begins to see that home is no longer the best environment for a senior, we help them find the senior housing option where they can thrive.
There are many reasons a client may consider making the transition to senior housing, and knowing what motivates them helps us guide them to the environment most likely to meet their needs. Perhaps he or she wants to reduce responsibilities and live among peers in a social environment. If this is the case, we may recommend an assisted living community. If the search for senior housing is prompted by an increase in the level of care a senior needs, we may suggest a nursing home where they will receive more help with activities of daily living and have close access to complex medical services.
Once we know which type of senior housing environment will best meet a client’s care needs, we narrow our search further by taking into account more personal preferences, such as location, the size of community a client will be most comfortable in, and the client’s social habits and favorite activities. We have years of experience with senior housing placement, and have relationships with nearly all of the senior housing communities in the Birmingham area. This insight helps us guide clients and their loved ones to the community best suited to their physical, emotional, and financial needs.
We realize that many families are afraid their senior housing options will be limited because of financial concerns. We believe that every senior should receive the highest level of care and comfort, so we have become experts at helping families take advantage of every resource available to make this possible. We will help you investigate long-term care insurance, veterans’ benefits, life insurance policies, and other non-traditional payment methods which could provide significant assistance with senior care costs.
If you or a senior you love has considered the move to a senior housing community, the team at Amada will help you find the place that is just right. We provide referrals to all types of senior communities, including:
- Assisted living communities
- Large and small communities
- Independent living communities
- Board and care homes
- Adult family homes
- Senior care homes
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Alzheimer/dementia communities
Home Care Technology
At Amada Birmingham, we understand why so many seniors are determined to remain independent and in their homes for as long as possible. We also understand that the thought of a beloved senior living on his or her own often presents grave concerns for their loved ones. We have combined our deep understanding of senior care needs with the latest technology to create an option that can please everyone: our BeClose home monitoring system.
BeClose offers families the opportunity to remotely care for a senior loved one while that senior continues to live in his or her own home. Clients are able to customize their BeClose system to exactly suit their needs, choosing from products like indoor and outdoor security cameras, automated door locks, medication monitors, and button-free alarms that call for help in the event of a fall or other emergency. Once in place, the entire BeClose system syncs to provide real-time updates to family members through a secure mobile app—so they can check in on their loved one at any time and from anywhere. Amada will also notify families if their BeClose system detects changes in a senior’s behavior that may be signs of a need for additional care or supervision.

Veterans Assistance Programs
At Amada Birmingham, we have learned that many senior veterans and their families are not aware of all of the programs and benefits out there to help them cover the cost of care. One program that could provide significant financial assistance is the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, which awards monthly funds to wartime veterans and surviving spouses to pay for help with activities of daily living. If you would like to learn more about this and other benefits for veterans, please Click here for a Free Veteran’s Care Needs Consultation.
Eligibility for CA Aid and Attendance:
- Aid and Attendance benefits are specifically for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses.
- Veterans must have served at least one day of active duty during wartime, and a total of 90 days’ active duty overall. Veterans with dishonorable discharge do not qualify for this benefit.
- Claimants must currently need help from another person to complete activities of daily living.
- ADLs may include bathing, eating, meal preparation, and other non-medical needs.
- Qualified applicants currently spend the majority of their income on care.
- Benefits are awarded according to the percentage of income spent on care, up to a set maximum.
- Claimants’ assets must not exceed a limit set by the VA.
- Age and financial need are key factors in the determination of this limit.
Aid and Attendance benefits may significantly increase the senior care options available to a wartime veteran or surviving spouse. These benefits are:
- Paid directly to claimants by the US Treasury every month.
- Awarded in addition to military pensions.
- Not required to be repaid as long as claimant is eligible.
- Not taxed.
