Amada Senior Care
in Charleston and Hilton Head
With today’s technology and advancements in health care, people are living considerably longer than previous generations. While that’s welcoming news to most, it does bring attention to the increasing challenges seniors and their families face in making educated choices to find what best fits their needs later in life. One local company is committed to helping provide much needed guidance.
Amada Senior Care, located in Charleston and Hilton Head, is a non-medical, in-home care provider who offers resources and solutions to guide and support families every step of the way.
Owners Cheryl Etheridge and David Lewis are cousins who have both experienced a need for guidance in providing senior care for their loved ones and want to help others facing that same challenge. “We consider ourselves ‘aging-in-place’ specialist,” Etheridge said. “Most people want to be at home, living as independently as they can and with dignity. We help them do just that.”
With a 25-year career in healthcare, Etheridge said it wasn’t until her own mother became ill that she realized the need to have help in arranging care for her. “I made a pledge to my mother that I would become the advocate, the expert, the resource for all families who had to face this issue.”
Acting as consultants and providers of in-home care services, Amada helps “take the edge off aging,” Etheridge explained. “The first thing we do is meet with you to help determine what you and your loved ones need. We try to answer the question of where are you now and how can we help,” she added. “People often wait until there’s a crisis to prepare and we can help families make those tough decisions now.”
While being non-medical, Amada provides much needed services to those at a stage in life where they need assistance with basic daily needs. “Whether it’s getting someone up and going in the morning, preparing meals, taking them to appointments,” she said, “we can help with all of that.”
With intensely vetted resources, Amada takes the anxiety and frustration out of finding what will be most beneficial to those in need, whether it’s in-home care, assisted living, or senior care financial counseling. “Often, people are faced with helping parents who live several states away and in that case, what do you do?” Etheridge said.
It is a result of their experiences finding senior care for their loved ones that Etheridge and Lewis have become uniquely well-qualified to help families through the same process. David and Cheryl had to learn about resources, ways to pay for care, senior housing, and in-home care the hard way, but they want people to know it doesn’t need to be that way.
“We want to start the dialog sooner to educate and help people plan. There are amazing resources here in South Carolina.” Etheridge added. “We want to take away the fear of aging and empower people.”
At Amada Charleston and Hilton Head, they know how important it is for families to feel confident that a beloved senior is in the very best hands. “We understand that people want to know that their loved one is not only safe and comfortable, but that his or her life is being enriched daily,” Etheridge said. “This is what we want to provide.”

Senior Housing Advising
When a family begins to consider senior housing for a loved one, it is often a time of heightened emotions for everybody involved. In many cases, this transition is prompted by an incident or health condition in a beloved senior, which often lends a sense of urgency to the search for the ideal assisted living environment. At Amada in Charleston and Hilton Head, we know from our personal experiences how difficult it is to focus and make rational decisions during a time of turmoil, especially when there are so many senior living options available in this area. When we were in this position ourselves, we just wanted someone who had experience in this area to give us guidance. Now, we are happy to offer this guidance to you and your family, so you can feel confident you have made the right choices for your loved one.
We have found that it makes the search for senior housing less overwhelming to families if we break the process down according to three major needs every family must consider: a senior’s physical care needs, his or her emotional well-being, and the cost of senior housing.
There are many different types of senior living environments in the Coastal South Carolina region, and each type offers a different level of care. If a senior client is only looking to release some responsibilities and live a more socially active life among peers, we might recommend independent living or assisted living. If, however, a senior requires access to more complex medical services and/or substantial help with activities of daily living, his or physical needs may be best met in a nursing home.
It is critical that a senior’s emotional needs are also met in their assisted living environment, and this is an area where clients find our expertise especially helpful. We’ve worked with most of the senior communities in this region, so we can rely on our in-depth knowledge to direct families to the place that will meet their preferences as far as location, environment, activities and hobbies, social opportunities, and other factors key to a resident’s enjoyment of life.
Finally, we help our clients consider the cost of the senior housing placement of their choice. Many clients feel as though this should be the first thing they consider when looking into housing options, but we are determined that no senior should receive compromised care due to financial concerns. We want seniors to transition to the new homes where they will feel most comfortable, safe, and fulfilled. This is why we have made it our duty to become experts in senior care financing options, and can help families take advantage of long-term care insurance, veterans’ benefits, life insurance policies, and other resources to make sure their loved ones get the care they deserve.
If you or your loved one is considering a move to senior housing in the Coastal South Carolina area, please count on the team at Amada Charleston and Hilton Head to guide you. We provide referrals to all types of communities, including:
- Assisted living communities
- Large and small communities
- Independent living communities
- Board and care homes
- Adult family homes
- Senior care homes
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Alzheimer/dementia communities
Home Care Technology: “BeClose”
Senior care options have remained rather stagnant for generations, and for the longest time families felt their choices were limited to moving a senior in to their own homes, hiring a home-care aide, or transitioning to an assisted living environment. At Amada, we have worked with many families for whom none of these options is ideal, so we have created a new one: remote care with our BeClose system.
BeClose is a home monitoring system that each family can customize to suit their own needs. We offer a range of products, such as indoor/outdoor cameras, automated door locks and thermometers, button-free alerts for falls and emergencies, medication monitors, and more. An Amada technician will install a family’s chosen devices in a senior’s home and make sure each one syncs to a secure BeClose mobile app. This allows seniors to remain living independently in their own homes for longer, because their loved ones are constantly reassured of their safety. BeClose will also alert families to changes in a senior’s behavior that may be a sign that more care is needed.
If a senior in your life is determined to keep living at home but you have concerns about his or her safety, BeClose could be the ideal solution. To learn more about this revolutionary senior care option, Click Here for a Free Consultation with a Member of the Amada Team.
Veterans Assistance Programs
At Amada in Charleston and Hilton Head, we are honored to provide senior care for a number of military veterans and their loved ones. What we have learned over the years, though, is that many of these deserving individuals are not aware of government programs or benefits that could provide them with significant financial assistance. For example, the VA Aid and Attendance benefit provides monthly aid to wartime veterans and surviving spouses who must pay for help with ADLs. This is just one of many programs we can help you and your family explore. To learn more about senior care benefits for veterans, Click here for a Free Veterans’ Care Needs Consultation.
