1. Military Service
- A minimum of 90 days of active duty is required, with at least one of those days during wartime.
- Must not have been dishonorably discharged.
2. Personal Care Needs
- Applicant must currently require assistance with activities of daily living, such as walking, eating, toileting, or dressing.
3. Income
- The majority of an applicant’s income must currently be spent on care expenses.
- The percentage of income currently spent on care will determine the benefits an applicant receives.
4. Assets
- The VA will determine an acceptable threshold for an applicant’s assets.
- The monetary determination of financial assets will depend on the applicant’s age and financial need.
