Amada Senior Care Johnson County
Mike and Mell Fleming, owners of Amada Senior Care Johnson County, have both spent their lives in healthcare professions, but Mike says that it wasn’t until they required senior care for his parents that he and Mell fully appreciated what Amada can do.
Mell recalls this experience, saying, “Several years ago, before we were with Amada Senior Care, Mike and I got a phone call from his parents in our hometown. They were frantic. They were in a situation where they could not survive taking care of each other any longer. Even though Mike and I had been in healthcare all our lives, we didn’t know what to do when we got down there. It was one of those situations that was so difficult, so hard. We knew that we didn’t want anybody else to go through an experience like that.”
Mike adds, “This is not a rare scenario. Having the confidence and competence to manage these situations is extremely difficult. At Amada Johnson County, we want to take that burden off of you. We want to walk you through this whole process to help you not only understand it, but to make the best decisions as you go forward.”
Now, Mike and Mell Fleming are proud to combine their healthcare backgrounds and their personal experiences with senior care to guide families from Overland Park, Leawood, Prairie Village, Lenexa, Olathe, Shawnee, the Missouri side of Kansas City, and other communities through all aspects of senior care with knowledge and compassion.
At Amada Senior Care Johnson County, we believe that the best senior care can only be provided when we get to know our clients’ unique needs, preferences, and personalities. This allows us to go beyond home-care tasks like meal preparation and light housekeeping to find ways to make every day special and more meaningful. For example, if we know that Mr. Jones was a jazz musician in his youth, we might play some of his old records while we help him get ready in the morning. Or if Mrs. Smith is no longer able to bake cookies for her grandchildren on her own, we can help her whip up a batch and maybe even invite them over.
We know that our clients seek Amada caregivers because they want to remain in their homes and do the things they love for as long as possible. If our support of these clients is limited to assistance with activities of daily living, we are not truly helping them achieve that goal.
Our purpose is not only to make sure seniors are safe, but to help them live happier, more fulfilling lives in comfort. To that end, in addition to in-home care, Amada Johnson County also provides senior living advisory services, helps clients and families understand long-term care insurance and other senior care financing options, and supports our clients and their families in every way we can.

I have been working for Amada for over three years now since moving to Kansas. I not only love my job and the precious clients, but I love working for the owners, Mike and Mell, and their staff who truly have a heart for their clients. They will go out of their way to help those in need. It is a joy to do something I have such a love for, but also to share that love with the Amada owners and staff.
Owners are dedicated and passionate.
Mike and the folks at Amada came to us in a very difficult time. The previous home care company left us stranded with no help for days while we were out of state briefly. I called Mike desperate for help and within an hour he had someone at my mother in laws side and continued to be there for us until she sadly left us. I would recommend Amada to everyone. They are very caring. I am very satisfied with my relationship with Amada, just wish it had been under different circumstances. If we ever need home care assistance again I will definitely be calling Mike!
Senior Housing Advising
At Amada Senior Care Johnson County, we see it as our contribution to this community to guide our neighbors and their loved ones through all aspects of senior care. This means that if the time comes when a senior is no longer safe or comfortable living at home, we help that senior and his or her family find the best possible senior living environment to suit their unique physical, emotional, and financial needs.
Over the course of their years in healthcare and now their specialization in senior care with Amada, Mike and Mell Fleming have come to establish working relationships with all of the nursing homes, assisted living communities, and other senior housing options in and around Johnson County. This makes them especially well-qualified to guide our clients to the ideal placement.
As families begin to investigate senior living options, it’s important to honestly evaluate the level of care a senior will require, as this will affect they type of facility or community that’s most suitable. If a senior could use help with a few activities of daily living but is still relatively independent, an assisted living environment may afford them a more active lifestyle. For seniors who require more assistance with ADLs or would be safest with quick access to complex medical services, we recommend a nursing home.
When looking for the right senior housing option, the level of care is only one of multiple key factors to consider. At Amada, we want to make sure that seniors are not only safe and cared for in their new homes, but also happy and thriving. To ensure this, we guide them to the environment that will best align with their style of socialization, activity level and hobbies, and even aesthetic preferences.
One of the main reasons families hesitate to consider assisted living as an option is that they don’t know how they will pay for it. However, the team at Amada can often help clients access resources to help make senior care much more affordable, such as long-term insurance, veterans’ benefits, or even life insurance policies.
At Amada Johnson County, we understand that seniors as well as their loved ones experience a range of emotions throughout the senior living placement and transition processes. We are dedicated to guiding them through every step with compassion and wisdom so that they can feel confident they have made the best choices. We can provide referrals to:
- Assisted living communities
- Large and small communities
- Independent living communities
- Board and care homes
- Adult family homes
- Senior care homes
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Alzheimer/dementia communities
Home Care Technology so You’ll always “BeClose”
When a beloved senior begins to be limited by age, families often think their options are limited to in-home care, moving Mom or Dad in with them, or moving them to an assisted living community. Now, Amada Senior Care is proud to introduce a new option: remote care through home monitoring with our BeClose system.
With BeClose, families can feel confident that a beloved senior is safe while that senior is able to continue living at home independently. This is a great alternative to more traditional senior care options for families who are separated geographically or are hampered by logistical or budgetary concerns. Each family can fully customize their BeClose system to include only the solutions they need without paying for unnecessary products. Some of our BeClose options include indoor and outdoor security cameras, medication monitors, automated thermostats and door locks, and button-free alarms for falls, fires, or other emergencies. Families can view up-to-the-minute updates on their loved one through a secure mobile app which will also alert them to any potentially concerning changes in a senior’s routine or behaviors, so they can make sure he or she is safe no matter what time it is or how far away they are.
When someone you love needs help, you simply want to be close. Now, with BeClose by Amada, you can. To learn more, contact us for a Free Consultation.
Veterans Assistance Programs
At Amada Senior Care Johnson County, we have extensive knowledge of senior care financing options, and can often introduce our clients to resources to help them pay for care that they were not previously aware of. For example, many of our clients who served in the military are not aware that they may be entitled to significant assistance through the VA Aid and Attendance benefits program. Aid and Attendance is specifically for wartime veterans or surviving spouses who need to pay for help with activities of daily living. If you would like to learn more about Aid and Attendance and other benefits for veterans, please Click here for a Free Veteran’s Care Needs Consultation.
Aid and Attendance Eligibility:
- A veteran must have served at least one day of active duty during a period of war, and a total of 90 days’ active duty overall.
- Veterans with dishonorable discharge are not eligible for Aid and Attendance.
- To be eligible for this VA benefit, applicants must need help from another person with activities of daily living.
- ADLs may include mobility, transportation, meal preparation, eating, bathing, and others.
- Claimants must currently spend the majority of their income on care.
- Benefits are awarded relative to the percentage of income spent on care.
- Claimant’s assets must not exceed a limit set by the VA.
- Age and financial need are two factors that help the VA determine this limit.
For many of our clients, Aid and Attendance benefits allows them to get more care or even move to the senior living community of their choice. These benefits are:
- Paid monthly by the US Treasury
- Paid directly to claimants in addition to military pensions
- Tax free
