Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh
Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh is truly a family business, operated by Joe Spehar, his wife, Amber Spehar, and his sister-in-law, Shelly Spehar. This family has had significant experiences with in-home care for their own loved ones, which is what has motivated them to provide exceptional care for their senior clients in the Pittsburgh area, including McCandless, Penn Hills, Monroeville, Plum, Greensburg, Leechburg, Vandergrift, Valencia, and beyond.
Joe says, “Both of my parents died of cancer. I remember the desperation and the helplessness we felt when we were trying to find home care for them. And I remember the amount of care and love their caregivers provided for them. We simply couldn’t give these caregivers enough hugs, couldn’t give them enough ‘thank-yous.’ And I knew at that time that I wanted to have the opportunity to give back, to do something just like that. Now, that’s what we provide at Amada Greater Pittsburgh. Let our family take care of your family.”
On top of their experiences as a member of a close family coping with the illness of two parents, Shelly Spehar has also worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years. Shelly says, “I see what caregivers do to enrich the lives of patients and their families, day after day. At Amada, we’d like to help you find caregivers of this quality. We provide a nurturing, caring environment that allows seniors to remain independent in the comfort of their own home.”
At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, we provide non-medical, in-home care, assisted living placement services, advisory services to help clients cover the cost of care, and whatever else your family needs to ease your worries and ensure your loved one is safe, comfortable, and thriving.
Because, as you can see, caring for families is what we do best.

Thank you AMADA Senior Care for helping a family friend with MS who ended up in the hospital while her children were far away on vacation. Paulett dropped everything and went straight to the hospital to see how she could help. That was unbelievably awesome! Our friend was relaeased from the hospital the next day and your team took her home and cared for her while her family finished their vacation and headed home. What a comfort it was to our friend and her family that she was recieving the care she needed. It could have been a very different story if it hadnt been for you and your team. Thanks again,
Thank you so much for helping out my parents. I don't know what I would have done without your expertise and experience working with their insurance company. We would have had know idea what to do or what say to the insurance company about using their policy to pay for care. Its such a relief to know they are in good hands. The care they are receiving has been excellent. I love the family portal that allows me to see how everything is going from afar. I'm so glad we found Amada Senior Care.
Senior Housing Advising
At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, it is our family’s goal to support you and your family through every aspect of senior care—in just the same way caregivers supported us in our time of need. So if in-home care is no longer the best option for a senior you love, we’ll work with you to find the best place for him or her to thrive. That’s what family does.
Over the years, we have worked with a number of clients who have misconceptions about senior living that have prevented them from even considering the move to a care community. What we have learned, though, is that most of these people are thinking about the institutional, drab, “old folks’ homes” of the past; or they are thinking that the cost of assisted living is well beyond their means. These people are always so surprised when we show them how wonderful and affordable the community of their choice can be!
Whether a senior requires significant assistance with activities of daily living and access to medical services provided in a skilled nursing home, or seeks a more active and independent life afforded by an assisted living community, we at Amada will guide them to the ideal placement.
Since helping seniors age with dignity is our family business, we are familiar with nearly every senior living community in the Greater Pittsburgh area. This gives us insight into the unique culture and lifestyle of each community, and we use this knowledge to help our clients and their families find the best placement to suit all of their needs. We take into account factors such as location, activities and hobbies, social preferences, and the level of care required to find the place where seniors will be happiest.
When our clients and their families are concerned about how they are going to pay for assisted living, we are experts at helping them take advantage of every resource available to them, including non-traditional funding options like veterans’ benefits, long-term care insurance, and even life insurance.
At Amada Pittsburgh, we make sure each of the seniors we work with is safe, comfortable, and happy; whether that’s in a home-care environment or the senior community of their choice. We can refer families to the best care environment for their loved one, which may include:
- Assisted living communities
- Large and small communities
- Independent living communities
- Board and care homes
- Adult family homes
- Senior care homes
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Alzheimer/dementia communities
Home Care Technology
At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, we strive to find the best solution for each family’s unique situation. One of our newest and most exciting solutions is our BeClose home monitoring system, which allows seniors to live independently at home while their families keep a loving eye on them.
With BeClose, families choose from an array of products to design the ideal home monitoring system for their needs. With products like automated door locks and thermostats, medication monitors, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and instant alerts for falls or other emergencies, families can be certain their loved one is safe and comfortable. BeClose sends up-to-the minute updates to families through a secure mobile app, and it also notifies families of potentially concerning changes in a senior’s routine or behavioral patterns.
We often describe BeClose as a remote care system, because it truly allows families to make sure their senior loved one is well cared-for, no matter where they are. If you think BeClose might benefit your family, click here for a Free Consultation with Amada.

Veterans, especially, can benefit from a number of programs that provide financial assistance for senior care, such as the VA Aid and Attendance program. VA Aid and Attendant benefits are specifically to help wartime veterans and surviving spouses pay for assistance with activities of daily living.
